AP Courses

Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement courses offer college-level curriculum on the high school campus.  Upon successful completion of the national examinations in May of each year (Advanced Placement test scores of 3, 4, or 5), students may earn college credit and/or advanced standing at many colleges.

In order to encourage and reinforce student participation in these rigorous academic courses, a five-point grading system is used for all honors and Advanced Placement courses.

Buckingham Charter’s Advanced Placement teachers participate in continued professional development to assist them in creating curriculum that is both challenging and interesting to students on a variety of levels.

Advanced Placement courses are open to all students that have the desire and determination to be academically challenged at the college-level and who meet our qualifications.

The AP Program at BCMHS consists of some courses offered on site and some courses offered via an online course administered by APEX educational services.  Curriculum, assignments, and assessments are designed and administered by APEX.  The student will have an AP class period with access to a computer and the APEX program during regular school hours but a considerable amount of time will be required outside of class to complete the course satisfactorily.  Grading is done using APEX rubrics by a BCMHS teacher who is highly qualified according to the State of California Teaching Commission in the subject area.
